The view of the Village church is only a small part of this picture,;
as I was driving thro the Vale of Belvoir, it was very bright and stopping by a little stream,
I saw the spire of St. John the Devine
It was the intense lights and darks of the tree foliage that drew me to paint the picture

Having recently visited Windsor, I enjoyed the view of Windsor Castle from the Eton Meadows;
I completed two paintings, the first a drawing and just a pale wash,
the second the one you see here, much stronger colour for the distance,
treating the foreground figures and boats almost as an abstraction.

The county of Rutland has some wonderful villages and towns.
The yellow stone used so extensively as a building material is a joy to paint,
I often use 2 or 3 pigment grades of French Ocher to capture the colour of the buildings,
Uppingham with its Old School is going to feature quite strongly in my subject matter for the next few weeks.

Again while in Windsor I sat and drew the Little Crooked house,
sometimes when its busy it is difficult to paint on the street, as in this case,
so I just draw the picture on the paper, and then with the help of a photograph ,
I paint the scene in the studio.
